Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are Electro-Acuscope and
Electro-Myopulse devices?
The Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse
are the most advanced
technology in pain control and injury trauma rehabilitation. These FDA
approved, Class II medical devices are input/output-controlled
instruments designed for the precise treatment delivery required to
control even the most difficult pain, trauma and injury cases,
including a wide variety of muscle and connective tissue problems.
The microchips within the Electro-Acuscope
are programmed to treat
neurological tissue of all body systems while the Electro-Myopulse is
programmed to specifically find and treat at 100 times-per-second
electrical irregularities in muscle, tendon, ligament, bone and fascia
and therefore, combined are capable of monitoring and treating both
acute and chronic disorders, as well as managing generalized stress
imbalances.
-
How do these devices work to reduce
pain and assist with healing?
Simply put, these devices assist the body to
achieve homeostasis,
which is its natural state of well being, by correcting electrical
abnormalities in area of disease or injury. However, in order to
adequately explain how the Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse work,
it is appropriate to begin by considering certain fundamental aspects
of living tissue. The body is made up of a vast number of cells. In
many ways, these cells act like tiny batteries, storing and releasing
energy, doing their work of taking in nutrients, releasing waste
products, repairing and reproducing themselves, etc. Each cell, like
any battery, has a measurable electrical charge, which must be
maintained in order to function properly.
Energy flows constantly between all cells
throughout the electrical
circuitry of the body. When damage or trauma occurs to living tissue,
there is a disruption in the electrical capacity of the involved cells
and after an initial surge, there results a measurable decrease in the
production and flow of energy through the electrical network of the
involved tissues. This condition is generally accompanied by pain in
the area and often results in the body's inability to completely repair
itself. Thus, lengthy rest periods and inactivity are often prescribed
in order to attain eventual restoration of normal function. The
Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse treatments have been likened to
putting a "jump start" on the dead battery of a car.
Since the instrument has both feedback and
therapeutic functions, it
actually provides auditory and numerical readouts, which indicate the
locations where tissue is damaged, or unhealthy. Once abnormal areas
are located, the devices can then treat the tissue according to its
needs. An experienced therapist can interpret the sounds and numbers,
which reflect the amount of conductivity passing through the tissue
between treatment probes and can determine a course of therapy based
upon these readings.

Are there research findings available
that support the use of the Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse?
Yes, studies have found that the
Electro-Acuscope and
Electro-Myopulse positively effect the production of ATP, sodium pump
effect and Krebs cycle of the cell, thus enhancing the cell's ability
to reproduce itself in a regenerative, instead of a degenerative, phase.
In 1991, two research scientists, Dr. Erwin
Neher and Dr. Bert
Sackmann won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine by detecting
electrical currents of a trillionth of an ampere in the membrane, or
surface of a cell. These findings substantiate the viability of the
Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse over other micro-current devices
that use tremendously higher currents of a millionth of an ampere. In
addition the intelligent "cybernetic" (missile guidance technology)
chips in the Electro-Acuscope ensure that there is never any electrical
bombardment on the body.
Additional research findings have shown
increased range of motion, a
decreased healing time and progressive wound healing through the use of
the Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse.

-
What about cosmetic treatments?
Thorp Institute has also developed protocols
for cosmetic purposes
that are very effective in removal of brown spots, varicose veins and
fine lines.
-
How much are treatments and how many
will I need?
Ranging
from $100-$250, treatments are one hour long. For optimal
results three consecutive treatments are recommended per week for one
to six weeks depending on duration, severity and cause of the condition.

-
Is it insurance-billable?
Yes, in most cases it is insurance-billable
under traditional
physical therapy codes; however, due to the state of insurance claim
reimbursement today, some of our technicians do not accept insurance.
Since these treatments consistently result in relief our patients find
it to be a worthwhile investment.
-
What kind of results can I expect from
treatments?
Typical Patient Responses range from
immediate and complete recovery
in one treatment to an initial increased discomfort then slow and
steady recovery. In some cases it may take 3-10 treatments before a
breakthrough occurs.
The effectiveness and sustainability of the
treatments is always
relative to the patient and their commitment to supporting the healing
process, which includes proper hydration, nutrition and physical
exercise.
The most common side effect is the reduction
and elimination of
pain. As a result of the increased detoxification, patients may
experience atypical symptoms including but not limited to diarrhea,
night sweats, headaches, nausea, flu-like symptoms etc. This is
actually a good sign indicating that something is shifting in the body
and the toxins are ready to 'move out.'
-
What can I expect when I go for a
treatment?
The Technician will administer micro-current
treatment using either
plates or probes or a combination of both applied to specific areas of
your body. An electrolyte gel will be applied to the plates and probes
to facilitate conductivity of the equipment's output. You should always
be comfortable during the treatment-if you begin to feel any
discomfort, such as a stinging, let the practitioner know so that they
can adjust the equipment accordingly.
Treatments are approximately one hour. You
may be asked to perform
some specific tasks during the treatment to determine the next course
of action (i.e., moving in the area of pain-an arm, a leg, bending at
the waist etc.) Prior to and at the end of each session you will be
asked a number of questions about any changes you may have
noticed.Prior to beginning treatment the practitioner will discuss your
case with you and ask questions about your situation to determine an
appropriate starting point for treatment. Dress comfortably in sweats
or loose clothing. You may need to remove some clothing to facilitate
access to the areas of pain. The practitioner will provide a means to
keep you draped for comfort. During treatment you will experience a
very relaxed state of mind.

Where can I get treatments?
Contact one of the Technicians listed here
and we will refer you to the nearest Thorp Technician in your
area.
-
Who created this technology and
manufactures the instruments?
A research physicist, Dr. Anthony Nebrensky,
who assisted in
developing missile guidance technology as well as the EEG, EKG and EMG
devices, developed the Myopulse and Acuscope devices. The company he
and his wife formed, BioMedical Design Inc., was established in 1974
here in the US where the equipment is manufactured to this day.
-
If it's so effective, why haven't I
ever heard of it before?
The technology has been available to the
elite and pro athletes for
twenty years. It was sold to doctors and chiropractors with a small
booklet of directions, assuming that the practitioners would know how
and where to apply it on the body. As a result of the lack of training,
these practitioners did not see the results that we at Thorp Institute
have consistently achieved with our protocols.
-
Can I buy the Electro-Acuscope and
Electro-Myopulse for myself?
Yes, if you are a licensed medical
practitioner. If not, and you
wish to use the instruments for your own home use, a prescription is
required from your doctor. However, if you wish to become a sales
representative for Thorp Institute and adhere to the strict
demonstration guidelines while presenting to medical practitioners no
prescription is necessary. If you are interested in purchase of the
equipment, contact a Technician listed on the home page.
-
Who can become a technician?
Anyone can become a technician by attending
training and purchasing
equipment, however, since these are Class II medical devices they must
be used under the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner
(Doctors, Naturopaths, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, etc.). It is best
to be aligned with a medical practitioner prior to becoming trained.
The Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse
devices create a powerful
new income stream for any medical practice. If you are interested in
training, contact a Technician listed on the home page.
